Sandusky County is a
county in the
U.S. state of
Ohio. As of the
2000 census, the population was 61,792. Its
county seat is
Fremont and it's
named for an Indian, possibly
Iroquois, word meaning "cold water".

U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 418
square miles (1,082
km²).409 square miles (1,060 km²) of it's land and 9 square miles (22 km²) of it (2.06%) is water.

census of 2000, there were 61,792 people, 23,717 households, and 16,957 families residing in the county. The
population density was 151 people per square mile (58/km²). There were 25,253 housing units at an average density of 62 per square mile (24/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 92.20%

married couples living together, 10.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% were non-families. 24.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the county, the population was spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 23.00% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $40,584, and the median income for a family was $47,675. Males had a median income of $35,501 versus $23,964 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $19,239. About 5.70% of families and 7.50% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 9.10% of those under age 18 and 7.00% of those age 65 or over.
